Mission 01: Birds Of A Feather [The Mercenaries + Kushinadahime] Empty Mission 01: Birds Of A Feather [The Mercenaries + Kushinadahime]

"That's not good." Having arrived at the City of Jadai to assess the situation, Kushinadahime - the Spirited Retainer of the Mandate of Judgment - ran into some trouble. It turns out there were some people wary of her existence, claiming she is of dreamborn nature due to performing acts without any hint of karma in her body. That was a strange call, given dreamborn were still creatures of karma, but she didn't really get a chance to argue with people. Upon entering the land, mercenaries hired by different individuals tracking her and others who merely had anxious issue with her presence went on the assault. Muttering an apology to her friends in this world, the goddess struck swiftly in incapacitating those who would disrupt her investigation out of self-defense. They would end up with some cuts and bruises, though nothing life-threatening or long-lasting, aiming to simply render them unconscious and disarm them instead.

These people were more skilled than she gave credit, not going in expecting to actually deal cuts. But the divinity witnessed similar white substances melting and bubbling away after striking one of the enemies down. "It's like before, but..." Possession. Some form of it where the twisted beasts of karma could infect the mind of an individual... Reports enough of larger dreamborn running rampant had already reached her ears, but this on top of it gave her a rather unshakable fear concerning these lands. That fear was slightly washed out by her excitement, seeing wild abnormalities like this and being in another world was exactly like one of her, erm, "Isekai" animations. It was a child-like wonder for a scary situation, one that brought a steady enough grip to the blade in walking past the mercenary association that all fell to the sword. "I'm getting excited...! Oh no, I have to take this seriously. I don't have any 3D Maneuvering Gear if I run into one of those giant things... Though, I could probably fly with Raikiri's help..." She talked to herself, going over a battle strategy for attacking titans and advancing in investigation.

"You're tellin' me the goddess dreamborn kicked EVERYONE'S asses here?!" A day after Kugel Holle assembled a squad hired by a rich man looking to take down the monster in question, she discovered several others were asked for very different reasons in stopping the rare specimen. Unfortunately, nobody could stop the supposed deity from entering the city. She had come with Miro and Matt - the later really being a jockey of sorts to carry her and Miro's stuff more than anything since she wasn't really sure if the kid could even fight. Now, she was kind of regretting not checking ahead of time given a large band of people trying to race for their payday couldn't handle just one creature. "Y'all suck or something? The fuck went wrong?"

Maybe it was bad memories, but the City of Jadai had a charged air that made Holle immensely uncomfortable that showed in some vexed hostility. The atmosphere was eerie and disjointed - a sort of enigmatic extension of the current world where dreamborn sightings rose in frequency. Even before then, this place was "just plain freaky" with a group of religious nuts that would often end up somehow at her office doorstep. They weren't customers, more people trying to spread the good word of the All-Mother and get her to quit her job. It wasn't bands of bad people, just annoying ones and being in their turf was a surefire way to be under-attack in attempts of persuasion. That, or people venting about this fake goddess running around. Holle tapped a firearm gently to her head, hearing out what the other hired guns at the scene had to say and wisely dodging any requests for providing extra first aid supplies.

If it was that bad, they're gonna need all they brought.

Mission 01: Birds Of A Feather [The Mercenaries + Kushinadahime] Empty Re: Mission 01: Birds Of A Feather [The Mercenaries + Kushinadahime]

Despite agreeing to work with the Dragon Slayer, Miro couldn't help but feel uncomfortable moving in a group. It seemed so passive compared to how he might normally maneuver himself for a mission. But then Holle and Matt actually fit into the society they were moving through and thus had no reason to be wary of normal methods of transportation or being seen. It was strange for the weasel to have so many eyes take notice of him for once. This did give him plenty of opportunity to use his abilities to see every angle imaginable but it was still off putting.

For that matter, Miro had actually explained the power of his Mystic Eyes of Usurpation to Holle on their way to their target. She had already deduced some of its capabilities from their battle and it felt only appropriate for his partner to know their full use to properly plan around. Information was important when trying to coordinate an attack like this on a powerful foe. And a powerful foe was indeed what seemed to be the order of business. Upon arriving in Jadai the group was quick to happen upon a series of other mercenaries after the goddess who had all been handily defeated. Whatever information could be gathered from these others he would leave to the humans in the group to gather. He could tell his presence was putting people on edge and it was little wonder why. Many towns were struggling with rampaging dreamborn attacks, Jadai being no exception. And while Miro was only half-dreamborn, this fact wasn't going to be very reassuring to anyone.

"I'll take to the roofs. The more eyes I have to use, the easier it'll be to find her." he said as he stepped forward. The bells attached to the ties for his pants jingled with each step though his actual feet made almost no noise as they touched the road beneath them. Years of training were on display there. Without much more word, and with a single movement, Miro leaped to the top of the nearest home and took off running. He would jump from house to house, all the while taking over the vision of everyone he could.

Mission 01: Birds Of A Feather [The Mercenaries + Kushinadahime] Empty Re: Mission 01: Birds Of A Feather [The Mercenaries + Kushinadahime]

After becoming a part of one if not the strangest mercenary team, lead The Dragon Slayer herself, Matt found himself being led by the woman, alongside a mercenary half-Dreamborn, on a quest to kill a supposed goddess. Normal stuff. Thing is, 1/3 of that dream team wasn't an actual killer. Maybe a potential one, but only time would tell. He was there just to carry the bags as payment for a future job.

The trip to the fabled City of Jadai, a city he knew basically nothing about, was... Alright. It felt quite quick, though. As if one second he was panicking about not cleaning Holle's office and the other he right at the city's entrance. Weird. It may have new roads connecting to it that made the access to the island where the city was located way easier, but it shouldn't take so little time to get there.

Also worth a mention was the fact that Miro seemed to be on edge about using normal methods of transportation. Understandable, given the unwanted attention he was attracting. He also mentioned something along the lines of "Eyes of Mysticism", but the conversation was more directed at Holle so he didn't find the need to pay attention.

But it didn't matter in the end, as he was now on the city. "So this is the City of Jadai..." He said in awe while entering the city with his companions. He felt amazed seeing it from a distance, but being right in front of it was on a whole new level. Even he could feel how different it was from the towns on the mainland, despite the city being relatively new. It had a different atmosphere. Aura, if you will. And not precisely a good one. "This place feels... Different" The kid then added a quite tame understatement. "I don't know how, but it does".

However, they weren't there for sightseeing or feeling the atmosphere. They had a job to do, and by they I mean the eyepatched woman and the talking weasel. Once they got to work, they found out 2 pretty ugly truths: Way to many bounty hunters were hired by other parties to hunt/kill the targeted goddess, and that the army composed of those bounty hunters wasn't able to stop said goddess from entering the city. Even Holle found that difficult to believe. I mean, how monstrous could she be? Maybe the title of goddess wasn't just for show. Matt resorted to the follow the mercenary woman as she moved through the defeated hired guns, asking what the actual hell happened.

Miro opted out of doing that, recognizing that his appearance could, huh, upset the mercenaries. Dreamborns haven't been kind with the city as of late, and that means exactly what you're thinking. He then proactive role, mentioned that he would take to the roofs before making a big leap that took him to the top of the nearest home. Maybe he was going to use the Eyes to do some searching. That left just Matt and Holle, gathering information from the injured.

"So... Any ideas on how you two are going to tackle that one-woman-army?" Matthew asked Holle, starting to feel the weight of the bags he was carrying. "Seems kinda difficult if you ask me".

Mission 01: Birds Of A Feather [The Mercenaries + Kushinadahime] Empty Re: Mission 01: Birds Of A Feather [The Mercenaries + Kushinadahime]

Holle wore an irritated scowl, squinting her eyes at the losers who were mowed down by a sword-wielding human-looking goddess dreamborn. Picking up a few details, she got a lot of notes that correlated with the client’s description of the target. A golden-eyed brunette draped in a military uniform of sorts, dressed with a white cape and a long bead-chain wrapped loosely about their right arm holding a blade. Black feathers often fell when she was attacking, using lightning-based attacks to rip them a new one in a flash. Walking with Matt, the Dragon Slayer followed a few men to see said feathered littering the ground like a calling card. Though- “These don’t have a dreamborn’s scent.” The one-eyed wonder stated in confusion, feeling a twitch underneath the patch and kneeling down to grab one. Normally, bird sheddings were not exactly an uncommon thing nor something to be suspicious over. However, the flow of karma affected all beings in this world as far as she knew, and there was not even so much as a hint of it among the leftovers. Even when detached from the body, something should remain, so why…? “Shit, nobody told me it’s some birdbrain dreamborn. The hell are these properties supposed to be?”

She sucked on her teeth, annoyed and standing back up to straighten her posture. Then, Holle kicked at the ground to blow off the irritation and looked back at her new assistant. “Lightning means she can probably get the jump on us, monsters who can use that element got two modes: crazy as hell and wide-ranged attacks or way too damn fast. Considering how she handled these mooks, it’s probably the latter. So our fastest bet is likely gonna be bracing ourselves for her to attack first.” A veteran mercenary knows her stuff! Believing in fighting styles and powers based on educated elemental guessing, the testimony lined up with how quickly this monster defeated them. Still, the hired gun wasn’t a fan of any foe quicker than them. “Blocking her then counterattacking seems like the way to go. That weasel is quick on his feet… So he can follow up. Then we’ll get some even ground if we fight like that. Shouldn’t be too hard after that.” Discussing her plan with Matt, she crouched down and began to change her loaded Vullets. Explosive shells and anesthetic blasts to disrupt and stop the enemy in their tracks would be a grand idea. “You just hang back if you can. And hold this.” Holle finished up, giving him her heavier firearms to stow away thinking she won’t need them.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Kushinadahime slowly traversed the city’s streets, seeing activity about the area was a bit scarce due to the attacks of the strange abominations, though far from lifeless. Blinking, she watched a few kids run away toward a worn-looking residence that was held on through presumably hard, constant maintenance labor. The muttering civilians in the background of the soon-to-be abandoned suburbs of Jadai amidst the quietly howling wind brought a slight unsettling as she scrunched her brow. “I don’t think I’ve been deep into Jadai in the time I’ve been here.” The divinity spoke to herself, having only taken residence in these lands for a few months. It was still an explorative phase, getting used to this world of karma and carefully treading as to not upset the balance. “Better move before reinforcements catch up to me then. Investigating is difficult when people think you’re a dreamborn…”

Seems the mercenaries and bounty hunters after her all have the same impression. Everyone was told she’s a dangerous foreigner. Not having a normal flow of karma or even a recognizable aura would do something like that, she supposed. Dreamborn though? “No way, I would be the cool, stoic neutral with a sword if that was the case.” That’s right, it was the role only a strong, though secondary, rival of sorts with their own story detached from the main cast… Though, this is not exactly her show, now is it? Ah, well, it mattered a lot less as the warrior’s foot lightly tapped the ground and listened for the faintest shifting in the wind.

“Jingle…” A hushed murmur paired with a concerning premonition came forth as she gripped her sword. A boy in the distance stared at her curiously, bringing her to glance over and keep in mind the civil life around.
